![]() ![]() Air control means are provided for cyclicly exhausting air from the chamber to admit material to the chamber through the suction port, and for delivering air to the chamber so as to discharge material from the chamber through the discharge port. A chamber suction port admits liquid and solid material to the chamber, and a check valve prohibits the escape of material from the chamber through the suction port. A check valve is associated with the discharge port to prohibit the return of discharged material to the chamber. Each chamber defines an air port through which air can be delivered to and exhausted from the chamber, and a material discharge port for discharging liquid and solid material from the chamber. The discharge of sediment slurry into the water column resulted in low levels of turbidity and TSS, well within the limits of stringent water quality standards, without the use of a sediment containment curtain.An efficient dredging device is disclosed, which includes a submersible pump having one or more chambers.Following solution of initial start-up problems, the prototype dredge proved capable of sustained reliable operation.The capability of the technology to pump dense slurries long distances provides a pipeline alternative for transporting sediment to distant disposal sites.High slurry density minimizes the volume of effluent to be treated and disposed of upland deposition of sediments.Capable of passing large volumes of woody debris and other foreign material in sediments without clogging.Comparable to much larger conventional suction dredges. Very little turbidity or re-suspension of sediments at the suction head.Provides an environmentally superior dredging method to meet strict water quality standards.
